Still active as a musician, Joel has been, in recent years, putting more and more time and energy into composing and arranging. Whether he’s writing for jazz virtuoso’s like Bart van Lier, theater productions like Robert Paul's One Man Musicals, or amateur choirs like The Ladies Choir of Blaricum, his music is always genuine and appealing; from the heart and for the heart. He is resourceful in his work, intelligent, and always accessible.
Joel enjoys the challenge of writing and arranging for groups with an unusual makeup; he finds inspiration in limitations. For example, he recently arranged some Christmas music for three choirs and a brass septet who enjoyed a congregate Christmas concert.
Joel writes for both professional and amateur groups. In the latter case, Joel takes into account the capabilities of the performers. His arrangements 'work' no matter what the level or instrumentation.
Ever aware of the possibilities and never disregarding the limitations, his music is at once playable and challenging for the performer, and pleasurable and moving for the listener.
