Joel Scannell is Yankee Music

Joel Scannell grew up in Detroit. He was the third child of five in a very musical and artistic family. Even as a child he was noted as a multi–talent; singing, dancing, or playing an instrument, he had the knack.

After graduating from Redford High School with the highest award for a music student in his pocket, he became a professional dancer, singer and musician (sax, clarinet and flute). It was during these early years that his passion for composing, arranging and the theater became apparent.

In the 1980’s, after starting a family on Curacao, he moved with his wife and children to the Netherlands. He left dancing behind him, but brought his love for music and theater with him to his new home where it developed further.

He went to the Conservatory at Hilversum and studied saxophone and composition/arranging. A versatile career followed: he composed for Robert Paul’s ‘one man musicals’, wrote and produced radio and TV commercials and jingles for B&M productions, arranged for many professional and amateur groups, and played his sax and flute with people like Laura Figi, Ramses Shaffy and the Alessi Brothers.

Joel is creative, insightful and a team player. A person who loves to create something together with his colleagues that is at once ‘outside the box’ and still accessible. Something that speaks to the heart of the audience and performers alike. Never afraid of a little stress or hard work, Joel remains dedicated to the task at hand.
